NAME
uid - return the numeric user-id (UID) of a user

DESCRIPTION
return the numeric user-id (UID) of a given user.
If the user does not exist on the system (or in an equivalent
coming from some server somewhere) an empty string is returned.
OPTIONS

print usage message.
