NAME

gid - return the numeric group-id (GID) of a group

 

SYNOPSIS

edrc/lib/gid [ -h ]

gid groupname

 

AVAILABILITY

WA2L/edrc

 

DESCRIPTION

return the numeric group-id (GID) of a given group.

If the group does not exist on the system (or in an equivalent coming from some server somewhere) an empty string is returned.

 

OPTIONS

-h
print usage message.

groupname
name of an existing group on the system.

 

ENVIRONMENT

EXIT STATUS

0
no error.

group does not exist.
